I enjoy a good meal of deep fried fish and chips. We spent seven years living in a small town, west of Ottawa and returned to Newfoundland in 2015. We missed our fish “n” chips.
The fish used in most restaurants is pollock. I always thought that all deep fried fish and chips was made with cod fish. Was I surprised to find out otherwise! We tried the deep fried fish in many restaurants in the Ottawa area, however; when you’re used to fresh cod, you end up comparing all fish orders to what you had been used to. I guess your taste buds become accustomed to certain expectations.
Fish and chips was the first thing on our menu when we came home for vacation.
Since returning home, we have tried a few restaurants. Our favorite place to order is The Seaside Restaurant in Chamberlains, CBS. We don’t know the owners or any of the staff there.

Denvers in Kelligrews…Generally the food has been good. Usually we order the cod bites..
Tinys Bar and Grill in Kelligrews..We haven’t eaten there yet but have heard some good comments.
The Woodstock in Topsail…Love their buffet..a bit expensive but worth the price.
Mary Browns…My favorite chicken..usually we go to the one on the Foxtrap Access Rd
